It’s a complicated question to answer.
The first place to start is determining if the patient has a hearing loss and what type of hearing loss they have to determine if the hearing loss is curable.
For temporary hearing loss, such as from wax or fluid in the ear canal, a referral to an otolaryngologist is essential to treat and cure that hearing loss.
However, permanent hearing loss such as damage to the inner ear and untreatable via medical means.
The way to treat that type of hearing loss is a plan with your audiologist to utilize hearing devices.
To summarize, there are temporary hearing losses that can be treated via an otolaryngologist, and there are permanent hearing losses that cannot.
When a permanent hearing loss is encountered, the treatment plan and the rehabilitation plan is to utilize a hearing device for better hearing.
