So, let’s talk about what you can expect when you have a hearing test.

What is a hearing test?

Hearing tests are assessments to see how one can hear, but how they can hear what?

When we test hearing, we are testing a spectrum of sound that makes up our language. A-Z fall within the sounds that you’ll listen to during a hearing test.

Your audiologist will take a look into your ears to check if their clear, and then you’ll be guided into a sound room or quiet area where you’ll be placed under headphones and instructed to listen to different sounds.

You’ll be instructed that when you hear a sound to please advise the audiologist that you hear it.

We carefully look at the spectrum of speech to make sure that the levels you hear at, are normal. Normal levels are when you can listen to all of the sounds below a volume of 20(dB).

Once we begin to turn the volume above 20(dB), it does start to indicate some degree of hearing loss. This is when your audiologist will guide you into the appropriate recommendations and treatment plan to treat your hearing loss if that is necessary.

I hope I’ve given you a better understanding of what to expect when you go to get your hearing tested, and I hope to see you soon!
