Styles of Prescription Hearing Aids

Invisible-In-Canal (IIC) – Tiny & Often Invisible
IIC hearing aids are the smallest custom style you can find in the current market. They are invisible, and rest in or just beyond the second bend of your ear canal. Invisible in Canal devices have been designed for those who have mild to moderate hearing loss.

In-The-Canal (ITC)
ITC hearing aids are really easy to use and are incredibly comfortable to wear. They are placed in the lower portion of the outer ear bowl and are designed for those with a mild to moderate hearing loss. They are a little larger in size but this does come with the advantage of the device having a longer battery life, and additional features such as directional microphones and volume controls. These features are really handy for better understanding in loud environments.

Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC)
CIC hearing aids fit deeply inside the ear canal, they are custom styled to the individual based on their specific needs. Through patient feedback, we find that people find these devices cosmetically appealing as they are almost invisible when worn. They are a very discreet option and suitable for those with mild to moderate hearing losses.

In-The-Ear (ITE)
ITE models sit flush within the outer ear bowl. Again, they are a little larger in size which brings the benefit of a maximum number of controls and features, including directional microphones, which require extra space on the outer portion of the device. They use a larger battery than the smaller hearing aids which means they can manage a larger receiver that has enough power for some severe hearing losses. They come highly recommended for people with mild to severe hearing losses.

Receiver-In-The-Ear (RIC)
RIC style hearing aids are a firm favorite among many audiologists due to their versatility. The models look very similar to the BTEs when worn, they are like mini versions of them. The speaker on a RIC device is incorporated into the ear tip, instead of the main unit of the hearing aid. RICs are recommended for those with mild to severe hearing losses.

Behind-The-Ear (BTE)
BTE model hearing aids have some additional performance features which are useful for patients with a profound hearing loss. Whilst this device is not invisible, it is certainly more lightweight and streamlined that the models that came before it. The BTE’s technology is housed in the casing of the hearing aid, which sits behind the ear while the clear plastic acoustical tube sends the amplified sounds into a customized earmold fitted inside the ear canal.

Over The Counter (OTC)
These pioneering hearing-enhancing earbuds have been specifically engineered with advanced medical-grade technology, to help you focus on what you want to listen to, without just turning up the volume.
The innovative design uses 4 dedicated microphones to reduce background noise and improve speech clarity, so whether you’re chatting with your partner in a busy café or catching up with friends over dinner, the sounds that matter will be crystal-clear.
